Why the Harman Kardon GLA-55 Loudspeaker System is so Awesome
There are a lot of different words you could use to describe these speakers, but we just prefer to call them Awesome. The Harman Kardon GLA-55 Loudspeaker System looks like it might have been unearthed from Indiana Jones & The Crystal Skull. It wasn’t, but if it had been at least one thing good would have come out of that movie. These Harman Kardon Loudspeakers pound out the sounds, and they do it from a very small package. The actual woofer is only 3 inches but puts out the sound of a woofer 6 times its size. Looking for small speakers with big sounds? Well, look no further than the Harman Kardon GLA-55’s.
After initially being wowed by their futuristic looks, the gophers plugged these in and were amazed. Looks aside, these speakers really do sound outstanding and are something to behold. The gophers ran everything through these from Bach to Beyonce, and everything sounded great. On a classical mp3, we heard some sounds we hadn’t previously noticed in the high range, while the bass sounded great when we ran rap through the system. At around 10 x 5 inches, they’re big enough to be noticed but still small enough to stay out of the way. Overall, the Gophers were impressed…
Are they made from a Crystal skull, giant diamond, or a piece of Superman’s fortress of solitude? We’re not sure, but they sure do look cool. They have touch controls for the volume, and an LED on the front of each speaker which lets you know if they are on, muted, or in standby mode. The Harmon Kardon GLA-55 Loudspeakers have also been deemed Gopher proof and have a very solid feel to them; they may look like crystal but they’re not going to shatter like one. They also have white LED’s in the base for an added touch of coolness.
You can hook these babies up to almost anything with an analog output. The mini-jack connection will let you hook it up to your desktop, laptop, mp3 players, etc.. In other words, it’s simple to hook up.
Outstanding, especially considering the size. No matter what we pumped through these, it simply sounded great. You’ll be able to hear every note from a clarinet, every blast of a trumpet, and each strum of the guitar. The highs and mids sounded great as expected, but the bass really wowed us. All the bass notes were crisp and packed a lot of punch while not sounding “muddy” or distorted.
These speakers aren’t cheap, and the price is not for the faint of heart. At around $1,000.00, these speakers can make even the biggest audiophile a bit weak-kneed. Do they sound great…yes? Do they look amazing… again the answer is yes. The Gophers were a bit split on these, as some thought they were well worth it, while others thought they were too pricy. You may find speakers that have comparable sound quality for “around” the same price, but we guarantee you won’t find any this small or cool looking. If you can afford them… then yeah you should buy them.
